Definition
Volume Profile is a trading analysis tool that shows how much trading activity occurred at specific price levels rather than specific time periods.
Traditional volume analysis asks:
"How much volume occurred during this candle?"
Volume Profile asks:
"At what prices did the market actually trade the most?"
Beginner Explanation
Most charts show volume underneath price.
Example:
A large green candle.
Below it:
High volume.
But that does not tell you:
-
Where buyers entered
-
Where sellers defended
-
Which prices were accepted
-
Which prices were rejected
Volume Profile places volume directly on the price chart.
It shows where the market spent time and where participants were willing to transact.
